Home Eye Test FAQs

Everything you need to know before booking your home eye test with Almond Eyecare.

Who can have a home eye test?

If you're unable to attend a high street optician due to a physical or mental health condition, you may be eligible for an NHS-funded home eye test. This includes housebound patients, care home residents, and those with dementia, Parkinson's, mobility issues or other complex health needs.

How long does a home eye examination take?

Appointments usually last between 45–60 minutes, allowing plenty of time for a thorough eye examination. We never rush — for patients with complex needs we take as long as is needed to ensure a comfortable and complete assessment.

Can family members or carers be present?

Yes — we always encourage family members and carers to be present if it helps the patient feel more comfortable. Their familiarity with the patient also helps us provide a more thorough and personalised assessment.

What happens if I need glasses?

We offer a complete home spectacle service. We bring a carefully selected range of frames directly to you, help you choose the right pair, and arrange delivery, professional fitting and ongoing adjustments and aftercare — all at home.

Do you repair glasses?

Yes. We provide repairs, adjustments, replacement lenses and advice on your existing spectacles whenever possible. Simply call us and we'll arrange a convenient return visit at no extra charge.

How often should I have an eye test?

Most adults should have an eye examination every two years, although some eye conditions require more frequent monitoring. We'll advise you on the right schedule after your first appointment.

Do you provide private appointments?

Yes. We offer both NHS-funded and private home eye examinations. If you don't qualify for NHS funding, or simply prefer a private appointment, we can arrange this at competitive rates.

Which areas do you cover?

We provide home eye care across Hertfordshire, Essex, North London, South London, East London and West London. Not sure if we cover your postcode? Get in touch and we'll let you know.

How do I book an appointment?

Simply complete our online booking form or email us at info@almondeyecare.com and we'll arrange a convenient appointment at a time that suits you. We respond within one working day.
